ON THE ROMNEY PLANE EN ROUTE TAMPA?Ann Romney said it's "exciting" her husband will be on hand to watch her speech Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention?though she admitted she's nervous about working with a Teleprompter for the first time.
Romney made a quick visit back to the press cabin of her husband's campaign plane as it flew to Florida to deliver a batch of "welsh cakes" she baked from her grandmother's recipe. Along the way, she offered a glimpse into preparations for her speech Tuesday, joking that her remarks have been reduced to merely "a tweet."
Asked about the theme of her speech, Romney said she hoped to communicate to voters "how important this election is going to be and how important it's going to be for them to consider the right things to make the right decisions."
Romney called the process of coming up with the speech a "unique experience" since she usually speaks off the cuff at her husband's campaign rallies. But Romney said she had "a lot of input" into what she will say Tuesday night.
"I think you will see that my speech is heartfelt, and I think a lot of you have been covering me long enough and you know that I've never gone off a written text so this is a unique experience for me to actually have something written? No one has ever written a speech for me," she said. "[There was] a lot of tweaking where I felt like I was getting what I really wanted to say from my heart."
Tuesday will be the first time Romney has ever used a TelePrompter?and she bluntly admitted, "I don't like it."
Romney said she was "excited" about the space and laughed about how nitpicky her husband and his campaign aides were being about details like what she'll wear Tuesday?adding that the "verdict is still out" on her clothing choice.
"The funniest thing of all is that Stuart Stevens who wears his shirts inside out is advising me on what dress I should wear tonight. So I know I've really come full circle now," Romney said of her husband's senior strategist. "Frankly, I didn't realize that Stuart had to weigh in on this--or my husband. It was going to be like my wedding night; I wasn't going to let him know what I was going to wear. But now they have opinions."
