How do I use a riding crop on a sluggish horse? | Pets All Day

I think I should smack him with the riding crop when Roy acts stubborn but not, exactly ?wake him up?. My trainer went up to Roy and smacked his butt with a riding crop Repeatedly and said ?that?s how you wake him up.? ** This is NOT animal abuse ? horses DO NOT think it hurts. There are muscles that fat and keep it from hurting. It feels like a fly **. Roy colicked and died some time ago, but I have another horse, escort, who is just like him. Is it right to ?wake him up??
