I haven't said it before but I'll say it now: it's raining babies! Not literally, of course, but babies are coming at us from everywhere. I'm certain this just generally happens after a period of time, when all of the family members of two households become of marrying age. It's inevitable and it's wonderful. Children are everywhere. Maternity wear is everywhere I look and growing belly's are expanding to fill them. It's a wonderful time to be alive. Not only are we expecting our second child but my sister-in-law is expecting as well. As we've finally returned back near our hometowns, but our sister-in-law hasn't, it became apparent that a short trip they made back home would require a baby shower. How better to show our love for a new member of the family then to shower their parents with bottle-themed streamers, cover them in primary colored cookies, and prepare them for the first few years with the many sizes of clothing their little one will doubtless need, grow out of, rinse, wash, repeat.
I wish I could say I was invited, but I wasn't. Neither was or son. It was a strictly "women only" affair, with nursing children allowed. So we made a day of it. Guess what we did while everyone else was doing baby things? We read books with fewer than five words per page! We colored with crayons on construction paper of various colors! We played with a ball! We walked up the stairs like big boys without holding the handrail! We found any objects we could and practiced drumming on any other objects we could find! We listened to children's music and ROCKED OUT! Oh yeah! Beat that, Baby shower! I'm willing to bet we had way more fun than anyone else did. (We did, however, miss Mommy.)
