Syrian TV: bomb explodes near security compound

BEIRUT (AP) ? A Syrian TV station says a bomb has exploded near a security compound in a suburb of the nation's capital.

The pro-government Al-Ikhbariya channel says the sound of Monday's blast could be heard across Damascus. It says the explosion was followed by armed clashes, but did not elaborate

There was no immediate word on casualties, but the station says ambulances and fire trucks were seen driving to the site in the suburb of Harasta.

Syrian rebels trying to topple President Bashar Assad are increasingly targeting security compounds and symbols of the regime in Damascus. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Monday's blast.
